FRANCOIS LINKE (1855-1946)
Paper holder in wood veneer inlaid with quarte-feuilles said to the queen and central motif of shell. A leaf discovers a shelf. Marble top. Low part with struts. Garnished with gilded bronzes such as framed foliage and bust of women. Signed Linke and monogram F.L. under the bronzes End of the XIXth century H. 147 cm L. 76 cm D. 42 cm François Linke is one of the great cabinetmakers of the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. He provided many famous interiors for the upper middle class and high dignitaries. He offers copies of 18th century furniture. His participation in exhibitions made his production known internationally. In the 1900s, his rocaille style furniture with its characteristic overabundant bronzes ensured his success. The first pieces of furniture of François Linke, around 1880, do not have marks. The merchants selling his furniture did not want his customers to buy directly from him. Later, the signature inside the lock cases (whose screws must be removed) indicating "Linke Serrurerie PARIS" is found. The bronzes are also engraved "Linke" or "FL".
