Guillaume Apollinaire lunch. December 31,... - Lot 115 - Tessier & Sarrou et Associés
Guillaume Apollinaire lunch. December 31, 1916. Printed menu Precious document that belonged to Jean ROYÈRE. To celebrate the publication of the Poète assassiné, which had just been published by the Bibliothèque des Curieux, Apollinaire's friends decided to organize a tribute banquet for him at the Palais d'Orléans on December 31, 1916. The organizing committee for this lunch included Dermée, Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Gris, Max Jacob, Cendrars and Reverdy. An honorary committee was organized in parallel. About a hundred people participated. In the list of friends we find in particular the names of André Billy, H. Hayden, Paul Poiret, Picasso, Kubin, Raoul Dufy, Othon Friesz, Blaise Cendrars, Survage, Léon Bakst, Jean Cocteau, André Salmon, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Henri Matisse, Max Jacob, Pierre Reverdy, Jean Royère, Waldermar Georges etc... Max Jacob wrote this fanciful menu in which many of the poet's works are evoked. It was then corrected by Apollinaire: "Cubist, Orphist, Futurist hors d'oeuvres (...) Arétin de Chapon à l'Hérésiarque (...) Méditations esthétiques en salade (...) Vin Blanc de l'Enchanteur, Vin rouge de la Case d'Armons (...) Café des Soirées de Paris Alcools" At the top of the menu, in violet ink, handwritten inscription of Guillaume Apollinaire : Mr. Royère Rare copy with traces of freckles and central fold.
