Leonora Carrington
Autograph manuscript, dated, located and signed on the title page "October 1952. Darvault. Les Petites [sic] Contes Horribles. Leonora Carrington". 42 pp. of a spiral notebook. Precious collection of 10 tales, mostly unpublished, one illustrated with 4 pen-and-ink drawings. In a spiral notebook, Leonora Carrington has recorded what she calls "Les Petites Contes Horribles". There are 10 of them, articulated around the character of Pirulin, of which only two were published in 1953 in the magazine Bizarre: "La Mouche de monsieur Grégoire" and "Le Chameau de sable". The others are entitled: "Pirulin ou les petites viandes", "La Chauve-souris grasse", "Le Gâteau des mensonges", "Les Dents de floque", "Cucula, peau de banane", "Le Gendarme et les côtes de porc", "Becolypto, l'ogre" and "Gaston". The latter is illustrated with 4 pen-and-ink drawings typical of Leonora Carrington's world. A small note attached indicates: "Original manuscript of Leonora Carrington written in the left hand as she wrote in her letter to Geneviève Parisot (see file letters from L. Carrington to G. Parisot)". A photocopy of the letter in question is attached.
