Strong battle sword. Horn handle with filigree. Iron mounting. Shell guard with five-pointed days. Beautiful wide straight blade engraved to ¾, double-edged, hollow sides and double gutters at the tip, engraved on one side in a cartouche "To Commander Borgnis Desbordes" surrounded by foliage; on the other side "The NCOs of the 6th Fortress Artillery Bon November 1887". Scabbard out of sheet iron with a patinated strap. With a black wire strap with silver tassel decorated with two stars. B.E. of use. Charles Ernest BORGNIS DESBORDES (1843-1925), polytechnician (promotion 1861) Major General, member of the High Council of War, grand officer of the Legion of Honor. He was president of the technical committee of the artillery. He served in the 6th fortress artillery battalion from 1883 until 1887, when he joined the 29th artillery regiment.
