"View of Jamestown in St. Helena" Black pencil drawing monogrammed A.C and dated "8 BRE 1840". 27.5 x 17.5 cm. History: Chedeville was part of the Return of the Ashes expedition. He was a commissioner, secretary of the board of directors. Las Cases notes in his logbook that he had nineteen years of service, eight of which were at sea. He entered the service in 1821, became a marine clerk in 1826, deputy commissioner in 1846 and assistant commissioner in 1853. He served in Cherbourg as assistant to the director
