Extremely rare dental case called "tooth set", by Grangeret In solid mahogany with all the elements embedded. Lid inlaid with a brass plate (blank). Brass plate engraved "Grangeret coutelier du Roi, rue des Saints-Pères à Paris". Opened, it presents: In the lid: - Two scissors in polished steel, a fox key with five branches, four of which are mobile in polished steel, turned ivory handle with engraved silver rings. - An extractor in polished steel with ivory handle. - Two saw blades. In the case: On the top, a tray containing: - Eleven instruments in polished steel, eight of them with ivory handle. - One file holder in polished steel with ivory handle. - One saw and file holder with ivory handle. - Two double effect instruments in polished steel. At the bottom: - Three davits in polished steel. - One garangeot key in polished steel with marbled horn handle. - Two claws in polished steel. Dimensions of the case: H. 78 x 145 x 210 mm. Very good condition. Circa 1830/1840. Complete with all its elements. (a little lack at the end of one of the steel instruments). Biography: Pierre-François GRANGERET, sole heir of Pierre Grangeret, obtained a goldsmith's mark in 1805 and reached the peak of fame in 1806 when he became Napoleon's titular cutler. Despite the changes of regime, he continued to be favoured by Louis XVIII and Charles X. We owe him in particular a dental surgery kit for the Great Imperial Arms and numerous surgical tools.
