Maggy ROUFF
Cocktail dress in black silk organza embroidered with black satin braids, low-cut bustier held at the shoulders by two wide straps. Lined with black taffeta. Signed "Maggy Rouff - 25, av. Matignon - Paris - Registered model - Made in France". Circa 1950-1953 Nice condition (small tear at the waist) Maggy Besançon de Wagner was brought up in couture as her parents ran the Parisian branch of Maison Drecoll, where she made her debut, becoming a stylist in 1912 and then director in the 1920s. Under the advice of Jeanne Paquin, she decided to found her own house in 1929. She was a complete artist and businesswoman, and was the first female fashion designer to be made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Maggy Rouff retired in 1948, leaving the reins of design to her daughter, Françoise, who became Viscountess of Ancourt.
