MARIN-MARIE (1901-1987)
Four-masted barque by port off Casablanca Watercolour gouache, signed lower right, captioned "to my friends P. and M. L. Réveillaud in very affectionate memory", located "Casa" and dated "1.7 49" 58 x 84 cm (at sight) (white stains at the edge) Bibliography : Roman Petroff, Marin Marie, Librairie ancienne des Trois Islets, 2009, described and reproduced page 329 According to M. Petroff, "this work combines the three qualities of Marin's best paintings : precision, nautical elegance and a discreet but very present poetic sensibility. After the war, Marin-Marie wishes to embark his family for a world tour. On November 9, 1948, L'Ariel left Chausey and headed south. The first part of this voyage left bitter memories for its participants. The crossing from Chausey to Lisbon, through the Bay of Biscay, was carried out in disastrous weather conditions. The repeated strong winds, alternating with the flat calm, made the journey painful. The Ariel then headed for Casablanca in Morocco, where the family stayed for several months. There, Germaine contracted typhoid. Her illness forced the crew to abandon their project. On 14 July 1949, the Ariel resumed its journey with a stopover in the Madeira Islands. On July 26, it was time to leave for France. On August 16, L'Ariel returned to the Sound of Chausey, the end of the family journey.
