Chini 412 - Royal Ontario Museum inv. n 919.5.73 This type of vase is called "plakenttenvasen" or "ribbed vases with raised stamps" and is made up of amphorae and hydria. Comparable examples have been found from southern Italy to Egypt (Alexandria) and Crete. The vase in the auction bears a collector's label referring to Cyrenaica, present-day Libya. Plakettenvases were indeed found in this region as attested by several publications. These vases imitate bronze tableware. Plakettenvases are rare, Italy has only one example in the Bassano Museum.
