JAPON, Kyoto - Début Epoque EDO - Lot 96
JAPON, Kyoto - Début Epoque EDO Antique Kimono made of natural silk, indigo printing, polychrome embroidery with silk thread and gold thread, decorated with wheels among wisteria, various flowers and plants, inspired by the Tale of Genji. Lined with orange silk. (Some small stains). Inscription dating it to Ansei 1, 5th moon, i.e. 1854, its manufacture is attributed to a certain Komatsu Seijirô (or Kiyojirô). Dim. 170 x 170 cm. These ramie strips of an ancient kimono show the perfect synthesis of different dyeing, weaving and embroidery techniques. Kimonos dated and signed in the Edo period are rare, so these inscriptions prove the esteem in which the contemporaries held the work.
