VERLAINE, Paul (1844-1896), poète français. - Lot 118
VERLAINE, Paul (1844-1896), poète français. L.A.S., to Edmond Lepelletier. Lécluse, June 11, 1868. 3 pp. in-12. Mourning paper, small tear by breaking the seal, without affecting the text, address. Very beautiful letter from the young Verlaine. "[...] Yesterday I returned from Fampoux where I landed three well-feeling bakes interspersed with severe but innumerable dances like the grains of sand of the sea and like the mugs swallowed by your old accomplices. From all this only resulted a little tiredness in the calves and a slight numbness, which the present epistolary nonsense testifies to. Speaking of nonsense, do you make worms? I try every morning without being able to get anything out of my swampy brain other than nothing, nothing, nothing! From Mr. Desmousseaux de Givré... (V. Vapereaux those who have some.). [...] It seems that the second issue of the Lantern is even more impertinent than the first... have you read it? I asked my mother, who is going to Arras today, to bring it back to me. I read Le Figaro every day. Is the Wolff-Maquet affair pretty enough for people who don't want to fight at all, at all, at all! [...] I cordially hug the dexter and the sinister".
