MAURRAS, Charles (1868-1952), journaliste, essayiste, homme - Lot 76
MAURRAS, Charles (1868-1952), journaliste, essayiste, homme politique et poète français. 2 L.A.S., one of which signed "M" and addressed to Marius André. Martigues et s.l., September 3 [1887] and n.d. 2 pp. in-4 and 3 pp. in-8. Minimal tears in a central fold. - [1887]: interesting letter from the young Maurras, the very year of his first steps in literature. The still recent death of Aubanel [Théodore Aubanel, poet and writer who died in November 1886], the December-January celebrations at the Palais de l'Industrie, the four hundredth anniversary of Aix, the performance of Numa Roumestan [by Alphonse Daudet], the passage of Mistral in Paris, the naturalist battle that has begun again around the Earth [by Émile Zola] and which promises us such a good winter, - this set of circumstances will, I believe, make my study really topical. [...] Would you be good enough to give me some news about the fate of my study? I will confess my concern. Yes, sir, for you must have gone through the trance at the beginning, and known the anguish of the writer waiting for a manuscript that does not return [...]". - S.d., to Marius André: "[...] If Lahire were God and God were Lahire, he would allow himself to give him this advice; it is to use a little of his critical mind from the outside in. I assure you that it is unheard of to want to impose a controlled collaboration of a man like Bainville in a place like the universal magazine and in times like these [...]". An autograph signed by Georges Piedboeuf is attached. S.l.n.d. 1 p. in-8.
