JACOB, Max (1876-1944), poète, romancier, peintre français. - Lot 57
JACOB, Max (1876-1944), poète, romancier, peintre français. M.A. entitled "Les Pêchés", illustrated with drawings in the text and on the back. S.d. 1 p. in-4. Pagination "182" in red. On the back: three studies of St. John the Baptist in pen. "Les péchés. I have seen you. I have known your elegance which can only be due to the admirable purity of your soul. I have loved your presence and my piety can only be the desire to see you as I feel you and to feel you as I sense you. It can only be the purest since it is the most Sawing, and purity is also modesty and modesty the reflection where what shocks it is reflected. And if the pure reflects the impure think how much he can suffer from that which wants to penetrate him. So much for God. Let us see for the sinner: the greatest is the one who knows what God's modesty is, yet continues to hurt him. Example: I, who sin no less than I once did, now I know. What's the matter? The other who does not know is excusable. But aren't we shocked by the coarseness of an innocent person when we forgive him. God suffers therefore from all men and learned and ignorant and no longer from the learned because they are conscious" On the front, a "filigree" sketch showing hands and a figure. On the back, pencil sketches: 4 studies of St. John the Baptist from the front, three of which are very accomplished and 2 are feminine faces. Enclosed is a leaflet bearing a beautiful signature of Max Jacob preceded by the word "yes".
