FOUCAULT, Michel (1926-1984), philosophe français.
L.A.S. to Claude Bonnefoy. December 14 [1965]. 1 p. ½ in-4. Very slight yellow mark. "[...] Thank you for sending me your Jean Genet. I have just read it. With passion. You have written a little masterpiece. It was a challenge - it seems to me - to speak of Genet after Sartre (his Saint Genet is undoubtedly the best he did). I have the impression that you've succeeded in the feat. This is great and strong "literary analysis". And bravo to have published this text among "classics" (even if they are from the 20th century) and in university editions. All this is a pleasure for the mind (and for the conscience). Thank you for the good time I took to read you [...]". Claude Bonnefoy (1929-1979), French literary critic and editor, published an essay on the writer Jean Genet in 1965. In this letter, Michel Foucault refers to Jean-Paul Sartre's 700-page essay, entitled Saint Genet, comedian and martyr, published in 1952 by Gallimard.
