Certified extract from the registers of the Academy of Sciences of February 22, 1771, giving a report by Le Roy and Vandermonde on the Essay on some questions of mechanics by M. Henry. "We have examined Mr. Vandermonde and various dissertations on Mechanics presented by Mr. Henry, Professor of Mathematics, under the title Essay on some questions of mechanics, in this Essay the author deals with 1° the effect of the currents on the blades. 2° the arrangement and dimensions of the various parts of the suction pumps. 3° of the way to determine the power necessary to overcome the friction caused by one or more turns of rope around a fixed cilinder, and this from such a hypotheticity of friction as he may wish. As these various questions have already been examined by several learned surveyors, we shall not undertake to make known here in detail the manner in which the author has solved them; we shall merely observe that Mr. Henry has shown intelligence in the examination of this question and a broad knowledge of the principles of mechanics and that he deserves in this respect the praise of the academy [...]".
