BARTHES, Roland (1915-1980), philosophe, critique littéraire, sémiologue français.
L.A.S., to literary critic Claude Bonnefoy. [Paris, 1965]. 1 p. in-8, address on reverse, stamp and postmarks. Barthes under the spotlight after the publication of his essay Sur Racine. "[...] You can imagine how touched I was by your article. I thank you [...]". With Sur Racine, Roland Barthes had attacked the old critical method of analyzing the work on the basis of the author's biography. Raymond Picard, a representative of the old critique, had responded with his book Nouvelle critique et nouvelle imposture. Barthes responded with Critique and Truth.
