LIU BOLIN (1973)
Red Flag, Self-portrait, for the series Hide in the city, 2006 C-print, diasec, signed, numbered 1/8 and dated 2006 in the lower right-hand corner of the margin 60,2 x 80 cm "I experienced the dark side of society without any relationship, I felt that nobody cared about me, I felt superfluous in this world. » LIU BOLIN (1973) Born in 1973 in Shandong Province, China Shandong College of Arts in 1995, and his Master's degree from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2001. Liu Bolin currently resides and works in Beijing, China. Liu's artistic career began in the early 1990s, when China emerged from the overwhelming effects of the Cultural Revolution and began its rapid economic growth and political stability. In Liu Bolin's most famous series, Hidden in the City, nicknamed "The Invisible Man", he paints himself to blend in with the scenery. Liu invites his audience to search for the "Invisible Man", who represents the forgotten men of China's growing economic superpower. Through media such as performance, photography and social activism, Liu Bolin dissects the tense relationship between the individual and society by "disappearing" into environments that are places of intrigue, protest and criticism. Liu Bolin's photographs and sculptures have been exhibited in numerous museums and institutions around the world, and he has collaborated with Kenny Scharf, JR, Jon Bon Jovi, Jean Paul Gaultier, Fernando Botero, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Annie Leibovitz. In 2013, Mr. Liu presented a TED conference in Long Beach, California, the recording of which accumulated millions of views online. In 2015, Liu was commissioned by The Global Goals campaign, supported by the United Nations, to create an image for 17 goals - including ending poverty, promoting sustainable development, and fighting inequality and injustice - where he hid in 193 world flags. In 2017, Liu was one of the keynote speakers at the New York Times' "Art for Tomorrow 2017" conference, highlighting the importance of the artist's role in conveying environmental issues in his work. Liu Bolin has performed at institutions and venues such as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (2019), Art Basel Miami (2018) and the Centre Pompidou (2017), among many others. His works are part of very prestigious collections of individuals, companies, foundations and museums around the world.
