Epigrammata Graeca selecta ex Anthologia....... - Lot 2 - Tessier & Sarrou et Associés
Epigrammata Graeca selecta ex Anthologia.... (Geneva) Henri Estienne. 1570. 1 volume small in-8, late 18th century fawn calf, spine ribbed with very ornate boxes, red title coin. Small rubbing. (4) ff. 311 pp. Followed by : Fragmenta poetarum Latinorum, quorum opera non extant... (Geneva). Henri Estienne. 1564. 433 pp. Followed by : PARRHASIUS, De rebus per epistolam quaesitis... (Geneva). Henri Estienne. 1567. (4) ff, 272 pp., (4) ff, Important edition in part original, carefully printed by Henri Estienne, of the Greek Anthology. A Greek-Latin collection consisting of the anthology of 260 epigrams published by Stephen in 1566, enriched with his own translations of Latin prose. This publication earned Estienne imprisonment for having it printed without the authorization of the Council and for having placed satirical pieces of his own invention in it. This work is followed in our collection by one of the archaic Latin poets and a manual of epistolary writing in Latin. A beautiful set printed in Estienne's impeccable typography. Dirt on the first 2 title pages, subpaginal wetness on the first part and small wetnesses in the margins of the last 50 ff.
