*Important studio furniture in molded ebony and blackened wood inlaid with a rich ivory decoration finely engraved with foliage, animals, attributes and characters, including: A cabinet with an architectural facade decorated with pilasters and candelabras. It opens at the top with drawers and curved leaves topped with transoms. It opens at the top with drawers and arched leaves surmounted by transoms. At the bottom it has leaves distributed around a niche. It is topped by a cornice and a curved pediment centered with a scene in the antique taste. It rests on a protruding plinth. Height 270 cm. W. 200 cm. D. 53 cm. A table with a top decorated with two reserves representing animated scenes in net frames and cartouches of foliated scrolls. It rests on sheathed legs joined by an X-shaped spacer. H. 79 cm. W. 129 cm. D. 69 cm. Two pairs of chairs with high flat backs, twisted columns and baluster uprights; decorated with grotesques with carved male profile and decorated with foliated scrolls and figures in an arcature. The seat is inlaid with fillets and centred by a medallion decorated with antique figures in foliage and inlaid fillets forming geometric motifs. The baluster feet are joined by an X-shaped crosspiece. H. 110 cm. W. 47 cm. D. 45 cm. A pair of armchairs with high flat backs, with baluster uprights, decorated with scrolls, grotesques and figures in an arcature. The seat is inlaid with fillets forming geometric patterns centred on an animated scene. Armrests. Baluster feet joined by an X-shaped crosspiece. H. 125 cm. W. 58 cm. D. 54 cm. Signed "G. Bertini fece" on the cabinet pediment panel. Probably Milanese work, circa 1880. (Accidents and misses) Giusepe Bertini (1825-1898) is an Italian painter, director of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.
