JAPON - Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958)


Ink and colours on paper, dandelions, their egrets flying away. (Moisture stains). Signed Taikan and two artist's stamps.

After his studies, Yokoyama Taikan participates in the foundation of the Academy of Fine Arts with Okakura Kakuzo, before founding a new association, Nihon Bijustu-in. He participates in the revival of Nihonga painting, taking inspiration from Western techniques and eliminating line drawing. He had a long career, received the Medal of Culture and was promoted to member of the Academy of Arts of the Imperial Household.
