H: 77 cm W: 91 cm D: 91 cm (Usures) SIDO (1934-1986) & FRANCOIS THEVENIN (1931-2016) François THÉVENIN is an artist whose protean work oscillates between architecture, sculpture, design and poetry. It was at the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the 1950s that Gisèle Sidoti dite Sido met François Thévenin, who would become her husband and with whom, from 1958 onwards, she would share the house-studio located in the south of France in Cannes-la-Bocca. Shortly after settling down in the south, the couple met the architect Jacques Couëlle, who gave birth to what they called "landscape houses", villas resembling troglodyte caves, where the Thévenins incorporated pieces of furniture in forged, bent, sculpted metal, inspired by the plant world with organic lines such as lianas, trunks, or branches, which integrate into their natural environment. Their creations use ancestral techniques of ironwork, boiler making and copperware, which they complement with the know-how and boldness of local craftsmen. This designer couple, with their technical genius, have received prestigious private and public commissions in France and internationally and are rightly considered today as some of the most important creators and designers of the end of the 20th century.
