Glycines Exceptional pendant and necklace in 18K (750°/°°) yellow gold and polychrome champlevé enamels. Six medallion motifs make up the necklace with double-sided asymmetrically arranged decoration. Signed "Lalique". Unique piece circa 1899-1901. RENE LALIQUE (1860-1945) Born in 1860, René LALIQUE began his apprenticeship at the age of 16 with a Parisian jeweller, before leaving for London to take lessons. On his return, he works as a freelance designer for major jewellery houses such as Boucheron, Vever, Cartier, Fouquet.... In 1885, he took over a workshop in Paris but it was not until 1895 that he was revealed to the general public at the Salon. Already in 1890, faced with the success of his creations, he had to expand and change workshop. The consecration came in 1900 with the enormous success of his stand at the Universal Exhibition. The political world (Madame Waldeck-Rousseau), the theatre (Sarah Bernhardt, Colette), the half-world (Liane de Pougy) but also the Russian and European aristocracies were all clamouring for his creations. The pendant that we are presenting for sale, dated 1899-1901, is a marvellous illustration of the singularity of this exceptional jeweller. He created a repertoire of materials and motifs of his own, making his creations unique and immediately recognizable. Lalique innovates in its choice of materials.
