Polychrome ink on falcon paper on its perch Carries two apocryphal seals of Oguri Sotan. Japan, early EDO Period (1603 - 1868), 17th/18th century Sight size 94.5 x 35.5 cm. Framed under glass. (Accidents and restorations). Oguri Sotan was a painter monk (1413-1481) at the court of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa. He was a priest at the Shokoku temple at the age of 30. A student of Shubun, he became the official painter of the military government around 1463. He is one of the most eminent painters of the Muromachi period, known for his very delicate falcon paintings.
