Large in-8, VIOLET, double cold gilt fillet, large gilt rocaille lace in Boutigny style, spine ribbed, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this collection of ten notices by Théophile Gautier, Jules Janin and Philarète Chasles. The illustration is composed of ten steel-engraved non-text portraits by Adolphe Giraldon, and numerous wood vignettes by Lami and Nanteuil, all in the first edition. The portraits are those of the most famous singers of the time, such as Carlotta and Giulia Grisi, Marie Taglioni, Fanny Elssler, Fanny Cerrito, etc. Each page of the text is framed with different attributes in several tones. Some freckles. Beautiful copy in full romantic binding
