Chemerzine VI, 375. First collective and first illustrated edition of the Tales, decorated with a frontispiece and 58 half-page etchings by Romain de Hooghe. Our copy is the first of the three listed, the beginning of the "Dissertation on the Mona Lisa" p. 211 of Volume 1, which contains 11 lines. Cohen 556, specifies that "the beautiful edition of Amsterdam, 1685, is much sought after by bibliophiles and that many amateurs, in spite of its date, rightly add it to the editions of the XVIIIth century".
