Paris, Imprimerie royale, 1774-1804. 37 vol. in-4, contemporary marbled calf, triple gilt fillet, crowned LA number (slightly posterior) on the first plates, decorated ribbed spine, red title and tomaison coins, some trimmed or missing headdresses, split jaws, rubbing. Complete edition in 37 volumes, arranged differently from the original edition (1749-1804) and divided as follows: Earth Theory, 3 vols. - History of Man, 2 vols. - Epochs of Nature, 1 vol. - Quadrupeds, 8 vols. - Birds, nine flights. - Minerals, 6 vol. including the atlas of 8 folding maps + Ovipares, Snakes, 2 vol. - Fish, five flights. - Cetaceans, 1 flight. [these last 3 parts composed by Lacépède]. It is illustrated with 929 plates, 32 frontispieces, 4 maps, 4 paintings, 1 portrait. The atlas volume (Minerals) is in pastiche binding. Some freckles
