FRENCH REVOLUTION / CHARENTE / ANGOULÊME / FALL OF THE MONAR - Lot 221
FRENCH REVOLUTION / CHARENTE / ANGOULÊME / FALL OF THE MONARCHY / CIVIC OATH. Excerpt from the Minutes of the Board of Directors of the Department of Charente, in permanent session. August 24, 1792, the 4th Year of Liberty and the 1st Year of Equality. In Angoulême, from the Printing House of P. Broquisse and L. M. Marvaud. Folio-sized poster (38 x 30 cm) divided into two columns by a frieze of typographic fleurs-de-lis. Heraldic vignette at the top. A major historical document published fourteen days after the fall of the Tuileries (August 10, 1792): an individual, roll-call administration of the republican civic oath (“to uphold liberty and equality, or to die defending them”) by all administrators, secretaries, employees, and clerks of the Charente department. Signed by Michel Marvaud and Durousseau. Normal creases from handling, minor marginal wear, a tear at the top that does not affect the coat-of-arms vignette.
