Among a handful of pieces of Gallé French art glass in a sale of decorative arts and design to be held by Tessier Sarrou & Associés at Drouot on May 4 is this example of the designer’s skills in the medium.

The signed vase, which stands just over 3in (8.5cm) high, is decorated with grasshoppers in a variety of techniques including acid etching, relief engraving and layering. It dates from c.1884 and carries an estimate of €40,000 - 50,000.
