Baigné dès l’enfance dans la peinture de Corot, Millet et de Barbizon, René Ménard reçoit aussi une solide culture classique grâce à son père, historien de l’art, et à son oncle, poète parnassien. Formé à l’Académie Julian auprès des peintres Bouguereau, Baudry et Robert-Fleury, il expose ensuite dans plusieurs grands salons avant d’entreprendre de nombreux voyages autour de la Méditerranée. Ces séjours nourrissent son goût pour la Grèce antique et les vastes compositions inspirées de la nature.

Habitué aux atmosphères crépusculaires, l’artiste fait ici du décor naturel l’écrin d’un paradis terrestre où s’inscrivent Adam et Ève. Une œuvre présentée aux enchères par Tessier Sarrou le 03 avril à l’Hôtel Drouot.

[EN] Immersed from childhood in the painting of Corot, Millet, and the Barbizon School, René Ménard also received a strong classical education from his father, an art historian, and his uncle, a Parnassian poet. Trained at the Académie Julian under Bouguereau, Baudry, and Robert-Fleury, he went on to exhibit in major salons before undertaking numerous journeys around the Mediterranean. These travels গভened his fascination with ancient Greece and expansive, nature-inspired compositions.
Accustomed to twilight atmospheres, the artist here transforms the natural setting into the backdrop of a terrestrial paradise inhabited by Adam and Eve. The work will be offered at auction by Tessier & Sarrou on April 3 at the Hôtel Drouot
