Blaise, 1782-1822 First edition. First volume in third edition, recognizable by its preliminary speech of 12 pages ending with "O utinam" and not "exoriare aliquis". Complete with the three engraved titles, the portrait of the author after BOILLY, the two unnumbered maps, the 285 views, maps or costumes are numbered from 1 to 126 (volume I) and from 1 to 157, 8 bis & 76 bis (volume II). Some pages of text yellowed, otherwise fresh inside Passionate about Greek civilization, the Count of Choiseul-Gouffier went there in 1776 and returned to Paris in 1782 to publish the first volume of his trip. The success of this volume earned him a place in the French Academy, and he was appointed by King Louis XVI as ambassador to the Sublime Porte. The publication of his work, interrupted by the Revolution, lasted more than forty years.
