UZANNE Octave
Art in the external decoration of books in France and abroad. Illustrated covers, publisher's boards, art binding. 1897. First edition, limited to 1060 copies, this one bearing the number 250. Important volume of decoration and binding at the end of the 19th century in the Art Nouveau style. Tinted plates and illustrations throughout the text. Original illustrated colour covers by Louis Rhead bound in white endpapers. Two tone frontispiece by Richard Wallace. Title, Ornaments, Chapter Headings and Endpapers by Leon Rudnicki. "This book was finished printing on the Presses Typographiques de la Maison Lahure in Paris. On November twenty-five, 1897 by Les Soins de L'Auteur for La Société Française d'Édition d'Art, L.-H. Mai, Éditeur". Binding in good condition slightly marked, a small tear, with gilt titles on the spine (28 x 21,5 cm). Volume in very good condition. Small foxing on the edges of pages and on the endpapers. Pages slightly yellowed mainly at the edges. Has apparently not been used. Octave Uzanne reviews and illustrates fine bookbinding, commercial bookbinding, paper covers and all aspects of book exterior decoration.
